The Fourth Annual Copyright Symposium for ARIPO Member and Observer States on “Shaping the Copyright and Related Rights Landscape in Africa” was held between 19 and 21 October 2022 in Harare, Zimbabwe. The meeting was a follow up on the World Intellectual Property Organisation’s (WIPO) virtual conference on the Nairobi Strategic Plan held last year.

The goals of this sub-regional gathering focused on pressing copyright and related rights issues and investigated solutions, particularly relating to copyrights in the digital sphere for the benefit of right holders, users, and other stakeholders in Africa.

The take-away from the WIPO and ARIPO was to urge its African member countries to do more and change the intellectual Property (IP) landscape, especially Copyright and Related Rights in Africa for the benefit, interest and welfare of their countrymen and internationally.
