On-the-ground knowledge and experience
With more than 20 offices and a network of tried-and-tested contacts throughout Africa, Adams & Adams is one of the largest intellectual property law firms on the continent. Our dedicated Africa Filing and Prosecution Patent team are not only experts in the South African market, but have in-depth knowledge of other African jurisdictions, taking a centralised approach in managing work across various countries.
We have a close relationship with important regional IP organisations, including the African Regional Intellectual Property Organisation (ARIPO) and the Organisation Africaine de la Propriété Intellectuelle (OAPI), enhancing our IP offering. Members of our practice travel throughout the continent to engage with registry officials and our local partners on the ground, to find effective solutions to the unique challenges Africa faces.
Once a year we meet with representatives from our Associate Offices, registry officials and some of the best IP professionals on the continent to share information and stay up to date with developments in the region. In addition, all our Associate Offices undergo a rigorous due diligence exercise annually, where we review the scope and level of each practice, including registration, insurance, anti-corruption compliance, and policies and regulations regarding data protection and privacy.
