These are the areas in which he enjoys a great reputation which is evidenced by his several media engagements. An avid legal writer, Mtho’s work has been published in many publications both nationally and internationally including, inter alia, Without Prejudice, Lexology, BusinessBrief, GoLegal, Risk Alert Bulletin, The Star; Pretoria News; The Cape Argus; The Daily News, a Compile of Legal Sources by European Centre for Security Studies, etc. In addition, Mtho is also a frequent contributor and commentator on a variety of legal issues on various radio stations and television. Mtho conducted several media interviews at the height of adversity resulting from Covid-19, the 2021 July civil unrest, and the 2022 KZN floods. Further to these, he is regularly invited to deliver talks and lead discussions around insurance and personal injury issues. Insurance practice Mtho is one of the co-founders of the Business Insurance Repudiation Department in the firm. Mtho handles a wide range of insurance cases including among others – providing advice to corporates and individuals on repudiated insurance claims; investigating and litigating on insurance matters; defending corporates that are sued for insurance related matters. Mtho further acts for insurance brokers, agency firms/companies, financial institutions, and several other intermediaries. In this regard, Mtho also assists clients with lodgement of referrals and complaints to the Financial Services Providers Ombudsman Office (FAIS complaints); submissions to the Short Term Insurance Ombudsman Office, etc. Mtho’s practice provides a broad spectrum of services including, inter alia, short- and long-term insurance services; third party recoveries; liability and risk assessment before and/or during litigation, facilitating amicable dispute resolution, instituting or defending civil claims stemming from professional and personal liability. Personal & 3^rd party practice Mtho also specialises in personal injury related matters, which includes, inter alia, Road Accident Fund, aviation, product liability, medical negligence, slip and fall, wrongful arrest, professional indemnity and related matters.
